# API overview

> Base URL, date conventions, address validation, and the error shape shared by every YieldPoint API route.

The YieldPoint API serves read-only protocol and wallet data at `https://api.yieldpoint.io`. Every route returns JSON. No authentication is required.

## Specification

The API publishes its own OpenAPI 3.0 document. The endpoint pages in this section are generated from it, so parameters and response schemas always match what the API serves.

| Format | URL |
| - | - |
| Swagger UI | `https://api.yieldpoint.io/docs` |
| JSON | `https://api.yieldpoint.io/docs/json` |
| YAML | `https://api.yieldpoint.io/docs/yaml` |

## Days and `asOf`

Daily data is keyed by New York calendar day, formatted `YYYY-MM-DD`. Only closed days are included: the current New York day never appears until it ends. Daily tables refresh once per closed day.

Routes that read from a daily table return an `asOf` field. It is the last closed New York day present in that table, independent of the wallet or season you asked about, or `null` when the table has no closed days.

## Addresses

Every `:address` path parameter must be a 0x-prefixed 40-character hex string. Addresses are case-insensitive. Anything else returns `400`:

```json theme={"dark"}
{
  "error": "Bad Request",
  "message": "address must be a 0x-prefixed 40-character hex string",
  "traceId": "97825a8c6549b7e9ef90e63a646519dd"
}
```

## Chain IDs

`chainId` fields are numeric EVM chain IDs. See the [Contracts](/protocol/architecture/contracts) page for the chains YieldPoint is deployed on and the contract addresses on each.

| Chain | `chainId` |
| - | - |
| Base | `8453` |
| Avalanche | `43114` |
| Katana | `747474` |

## Errors

Error responses share one shape. `error` is the HTTP status text, `message` explains what was wrong with the request, and `traceId` identifies the request for support. Some validation errors also include a `validation` array with one string per failed check.

| Field | Type | Notes |
| - | - | - |
| `error` | string | Always present |
| `message` | string | Always present |
| `traceId` | string or null | Quote this when reporting a problem |
| `validation` | string\[] or null | Per-check detail, when available |
